April 2026 Update

Del Puerto Pathway to Health / Paseo de Del Puerto hacia la Salud

April 2026 – CEO’s Message

Patterson is one of the fastest-growing communities in the Central Valley, and the people who call it home deserve healthcare that keeps pace with that growth. At DPHCD, we are pursuing that goal on multiple fronts.

The most visible effort is the healthcare campus itself: a 40-acre development that will bring a hospital, a combined primary care and mental health clinic, an ambulance and administration center, senior living, and more to Patterson in phased stages over the coming years. Design and planning work continues to advance, and each month brings us closer to breaking ground.

In parallel, our team has been working in Sacramento alongside Assemblymember Juan Alanis on AB 2282 – legislation that would allow emergency stabilization services to come to our community sooner, while the permanent campus is being built. This month, that bill passed out of the Assembly Health Committee, and we are grateful for the progress.

And closer to home, our Health Center and ambulance services continue to be the backbone of care for West Side residents every day, showing up for this community in ways that don't make headlines but matter deeply.

None of this work happens in isolation. It is built on the trust of our residents, the partnership of our community organizations, and the commitment of our board and staff. We are grateful for every one of you who is part of this effort.

— Dr. Karin Freese, CEO of Del Puerto Health Care District

AB 2282: Bringing Emergency Care to Patterson

This month, AB 2282, authored by Patterson’s Assemblymember Juan Alanis, passed out of the California Assembly Health Committee, marking an important milestone in the effort to bring emergency healthcare services closer to home for Patterson residents.

What is AB 2282?

Simply put, AB 2282 is a bill that allows Del Puerto Health Care District to operate a rural emergency stabilization center in Patterson while we work toward bringing the full healthcare campus to fruition. Right now, the nearest emergency room is 18 miles from Patterson – a 25-to-30-minute ambulance ride that takes that ambulance out of service for at least an hour and twenty minutes every time it runs a call.

This isn't a replacement for the hospital — it's a way to get emergency services to our community sooner, so that Patterson residents have increased access to care while we work to get the healthcare campus, including the full hospital, which is planned to be operational by 2040, up and running.

DPHCD extends its sincere thanks to Assemblymember Juan Alanis for his leadership and commitment to the residents of Patterson and the west side of Stanislaus County. We also thank the many organizations and individuals who submitted letters of support, testified before the committee, or simply spread the word.

What’s Next

AB 2282 continues through the legislative process and will be heard next in Assembly Appropriations. We will provide updates in future editions as the bill advances. Community members who want to support the bill are encouraged to reach out to us so that we can get you plugged in to our efforts.

Join Us: NAMIWalks Stanislaus – THIS SATURDAY, April 25

NAMIWalks Stanislaus event on April 25, 2026, promoting mental health awareness. Time: 9 AM - 12 PM.

The big day is almost here! Join us on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 9 AM – 12 PM at Patterson Community Stadium for NAMIWalks Stanislaus, a community walk dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting mental health services across our region.

DPHCD is proud to serve as a local sponsor and partner for this event. Mental and behavioral health is central to the campus we are building: our planned Community Mental Health Clinic, part of Phase 1 of the campus, is on track for a late 2028 completion and will bring much-needed mental health services directly to our community.

The Walk is one of the most visible ways our community can stand together for mental health. We hope to see you there.

Campus Planning Update

Design and engineering work on the Del Puerto Ambulance & Administration Center (DPAC) and the Combined Clinic – the first phase of the healthcare campus – continues to advance. Our team is working through the City of Patterson's review process as the Master Plan moves toward formal approval.

The campus remains on track for a 2027 groundbreaking, with Phase 1 facilities targeted for completion in late 2028.
