Healthcare Campus: Project Status & Next Steps

Funding and Schedule Update — October 2026

Del Puerto Health Care District remains committed to developing the Patterson Healthcare Campus and expanding access to care close to home. Delays in anticipated funding are affecting the project schedule. Previously published procurement and construction dates are being reassessed and should no longer be treated as confirmed milestones.

Our responsibility is to move this project forward with a funding plan that supports construction, long-term operations, and the continued delivery of existing healthcare and ambulance services.

Governor Newsom's veto of Assembly Bill 2282 (AB 2282) does not affect this project. AB 2282 would have authorized a Rural Emergency Stabilization Care Unit  (RESCU) in Patterson to provide emergency stabilization services while the District works toward developing a permanent hospital. The RESCU is separate from the healthcare campus plan, and Del Puerto Health Care District continues pursuing options to address the emergency care gap while advancing the campus.

Our first priorities

The first phase of the campus plan includes:

•  Del Puerto Ambulance and Administration Center: Facilities to support ambulance operations and District administration.
• Combined Clinic: Space for primary care and behavioral health services.
• Supporting infrastructure: Utilities, access, drainage, and other improvements needed to serve these facilities.

The timing and sequencing of this work will depend on available funding, project approvals, and infrastructure readiness.

What happens next?

The District’s next steps are to align available funding with project costs, advance required planning and environmental review, and determine a financially achievable construction sequence.

Updated procurement and construction targets will be published when the District has a reliable basis for those dates. Any revised schedule must also account for applicable grant requirements.

The longer-term campus vision

The campus is planned to develop in phases over many years. Future facilities may include medical offices, senior housing and care, skilled nursing, and a hospital with an emergency department, along with complementary residential and commercial development.

Each phase will depend on community needs, population growth, healthcare workforce availability, funding, and the ability to sustain services over time. The hospital remains a long-term goal that requires a stronger local healthcare network and a sustainable operating model.
